Higher Education System in the United States

 

First Level: Undergraduate

 

It takes around four years to earn an undergraduate degree. The students can either pursue a Bachelor’s degree at a community college or a four years degree in a university or college.

Second Level: Graduate in Pursuit of a Master’s degree

To get admitted to a graduate program, students need to take the GTE (Graduate Record Examination), GMAT, MCAT, LSAT, and other standardized tests based on the subjects they want to study. The graduate degree is one to two years long.

Third Level: Graduate in Pursuit of a Doctorate Degree

Many schools consider graduating with a master’s degree as the first step towards earning a PhD (doctorate).

The length of doctorate programs basically depends on two things:

• Whether or not a student should first complete a master’s degree and
• The time duration to complete a dissertation

 

Visa Requirements

 

To qualify for an F1 visa, an international student:

• Need to get admitted into a SEVP accepted institution.
• Must enrol as a full-time student.
• Should have strong ties to your home country.
• Have proven sufficient funds in bank accounts to cover the expenses while studying and living.
• Should be proficient in English.

Documents required for F1 Visa:

• Valid passport
• Form DS-160 for non-immigrant visa applications
• Two photographs (Please check the US Visa Photo Requirements)
• Proof of paying the F1 visa fee.
• I-20 Form: The Form I-20 states the amount of funds you need to have for your education and living in the US. You must submit documents that satisfy the funds that you need to finance. These documents can be:
  • Bank statements for the last three years
  • Tax Payment records for the last three years
  • Salary sheets and Tax payments of employment
  • If you received a scholarship, proof of scholarship
  • If you are funding your education through a loan, you need to show documentation proof of the approved loan.
  • You can pay a semester’s or a year’s tuition fee, but it is not mandatory.
  • If someone in the US is sponsoring or supporting you, you must submit Form I-134, Affidavit of Support and bank transaction statements for the last three years.
